VentureBeat's September survey found OpenAI's agent platform in use at twice as many companies as Anthropic's. Of 107 companies using such a platform, 43% named OpenAI's, 22% Anthropic's and 21% Google's. Asked for their main platform, 25% chose OpenAI's, 18% Google's and 16% Anthropic's. Ramp, a business spending firm, said 43.8% of U.S. businesses on its platform paid Anthropic in August, against 39.8% for OpenAI.
The sources do not say how the 107 companies were chosen, so the sample is small and its make-up unknown. VentureBeat said the survey and Ramp's data measure different things in different groups. Ramp's customers lean tech-forward, and it counts each business once, whatever its size. Home Depot's CIO, Angie Brown, told VentureBeat the company is mostly a Google shop. It also has OpenAI models check Google's results, and Claude write code that OpenAI models review.
An agent platform assigns tasks to agents, calls tools and keeps agents within their permissions. Model spending is a separate purchase. Home Depot shows one firm taking both from different vendors. That is our reading, not VentureBeat's: the two rankings need not agree. Buyers can ask who owns the permissions setup, and how easily one model can replace another.
