Visa, BILL and Billtrust said on Oct. 20, 2026, that a live pilot now lets AI agents pay approved supplier invoices from start to finish. Visa said the BILL Payment Agent is listed in its Trusted Agent Protocol and Agentic Directory. It pays with tokenized card credentials, meaning stand-in codes, not real card numbers. Billtrust, which runs the supplier portals, recognizes the agent and lets it in. Visa said this check can satisfy the protections CAPTCHA and other bot blockers have provided, with no extra agent login. Tech in Asia covered the launch.
The companies said payments are already moving for some BILL buyers and Billtrust suppliers. No results have been published. They gave no volume, participant count, end date or plan to widen it. Visa said the agent only runs payments the buyer already approved. The pilot is designed to remove the need to share portal logins.
As Visa describes it, the portal question changes from "is this a bot?" to "which agent is this?" A registered identity and a stand-in payment code do the job of a shared login. The pilot has not shown who vets the registry, or what happens if an agent's credential is abused. AP and supplier teams can ask how portals pick which agents to trust, and what controls and audit trail exist.
