Tencent opens Yuanbao Search to outside AI developers

Tencent Cloud now sells the search service that powers Tencent's own AI products.

In brief
  • Tencent now offers Yuanbao Search to outside developers and businesses through Tencent Cloud. It is meant to feed information to AI models and agents.
  • Tencent says more than 50 of its own businesses already use it. Pricing and regional availability have not been given.

TechNode reported that Tencent has opened Yuanbao Search to outside developers and businesses through Tencent Cloud. Tencent announced the move on October 20. The service lets large language models and AI agents look up information. It blends public web content with material from Tencent's own content ecosystem. Tencent said its search index holds hundreds of billions of entries. It said the system handles hundreds of millions of calls each day. More than 50 Tencent businesses already use it, including WorkBuddy, ima and Tencent Video.

Tencent also said the service connects to 157 information sources across 13 sectors, such as finance, healthcare, law and travel. It said news, weather and market prices can be refreshed within minutes. The size and traffic figures come from Tencent itself. The report gives no pricing. It does not say whether the service will reach customers outside China. It also gives no technical detail on how developers would connect to it.

Teams that build AI agents often need fresh facts from the web. This launch shows a large cloud vendor selling the same search layer its own products rely on. Buyers now have another option for that part of an agent.
