WordPress on .tr domains: 96% (Source: WebPulse Common Crawl WARC scan. 16,224 WordPress out of 16,900 detected framework instances on .tr domains.)
The Data
Among .tr domains where our scanner detected a framework, Turkey has the highest WordPress concentration in our Common Crawl dataset. Not 60%, not 80% — ninety-six percent. The remaining 4% is Angular, Next.js, and scattered others. At 16,900 detected sites, this is no longer a small sample — it's a confirmed monoculture.
Why This Happens
Turkey's web development ecosystem is dominated by freelance WordPress developers. The combination of accessible WordPress tutorials in Turkish, a large freelance marketplace presence, and SMB clients who ask for 'a website' (meaning WordPress by default) created a near-monoculture.
The Risk of Monoculture
When 96% of detected sites in a country run one framework, every WordPress vulnerability affects the vast majority of the detectable web. The 4,200+ CVEs in 2025 alone are relevant to nearly every detected .tr website. Even accounting for detection bias (WordPress has strong signatures), the concentration is remarkable.
