WordPress on .edu: 38.5% (22,372 of 58,182 detected) (Source: WebPulse Common Crawl scan, 7.37M+ detections. ±0.4pp margin of error.)
Confirmed at Scale
At 58,182 detections — over 3x our earlier sample — this is the most comprehensive .edu framework survey ever published. The finding is definitive: education doesn't follow the WordPress playbook. Drupal (35.7%) nearly matches WordPress (38.5%), and Rails (16.4%) with 9,568 sites is a force nowhere else on the web. Government (.gov) also leans Drupal but has no Rails. Enterprise leans Angular. Education is unique.
Why Education Is Unique
Universities have IT departments that make institutional technology decisions, CS departments that build tools in the languages they teach, and library systems that chose Drupal for its content architecture 15 years ago. Three independent technology cultures under one institution. The result is a framework landscape that reflects organizational complexity, not market default.
