Palo Alto Networks reportedly in talks to buy AI agent security firm Clutch

One source tells TechCrunch the price under discussion is $500 million in cash, plus milestone payments. No deal has been announced.

In brief
  • A source says Palo Alto Networks and Clutch Security are discussing $500 million in cash, plus milestone payments. Neither company has commented.
  • Clutch was last valued at $85 million in January 2025. Rival Oasis Security was bought by Cyera for $1 billion.

TechCrunch reported that Palo Alto Networks is in talks to buy Clutch Security, a three-year-old startup that secures AI agents' access to company systems. A person familiar with the talks said the price is $500 million in cash, plus payments tied to milestones. The Information reported the talks first. Neither company answered TechCrunch's request for comment.

No deal has been announced. The source does not say what the milestones are or when a sale could close. Clutch is nearing $10 million in annual recurring revenue, which would value Clutch at about 50 times its annual recurring revenue, TechCrunch says. Per the same source, Clutch was last valued at $85 million in a January 2025 Series A. PitchBook counts this as Palo Alto Networks' seventh purchase this year, if it completes.

TechCrunch also reports that Cyera, a startup valued at $12 billion earlier this year, bought Oasis Security for $1 billion. Oasis, like Clutch, manages AI agents' access to systems. This is our reading, not TechCrunch's: two large prices point to buyers paying well for this narrow control. For buyers, a vendor in this niche may change owners, so ask what a sale would mean for your contract.
