The Verge reported on 5 November that Anthropic has added a Personal Finance feature to Claude. The feature only works if a user chooses to connect bank and card accounts through Plaid. Users can then ask where their money went this month, and Claude sorts spending into groups such as rent, utilities, shopping and food. The beta is rolling out this week to US subscribers on the Claude Pro, Max and Ultra plans. The Verge said OpenAI added a similar Plaid-linked feature to ChatGPT in May.
Plaid is a go-between that links apps to banks. The Verge says it keeps banking passwords from Claude and that access is read-only. Anthropic says Claude cannot move, manage or invest money. The Verge lists what Claude can see. That includes account names and types, the last four digits of account numbers, and balances. It also covers credit limits and up to two years of transactions. The Verge does not say how Anthropic stores this data.
Our reading: the password stays out of reach, but the fields listed are broad and storage is unstated. Anthropic also invited banks, wealth managers and financial firms to help shape what comes next. Teams whose staff use these plans could ask Anthropic how long it keeps two years of transactions, and where.
