BleepingComputer reported on 5 October that OpenAI will test visual ads in ChatGPT while users make images. OpenAI said the test starts later this month in the U.S. with a first group of advertisers. The ads may show product ideas, how a product is used, or what a service offers. OpenAI said they will be labelled and kept apart from the image, and that ads do not change ChatGPT's answers. It says ChatGPT reaches 1.2 billion people every week.
OpenAI says it is integrating with Hightouch, Tealium and LiveRamp for conversion data. Its attribution partners, which trace a sale back to an ad, now include AppsFlyer, Adjust, Branch, Triple Whale and Kochava, among others. DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science are working on brand suitability, which checks whether an ad fits its surroundings. OpenAI said they will not see private chats. The sources do not say how measurement will work for visual ads, when it will be ready, who the advertisers are, or what ads cost.
Ads are moving into chat tools, where page-based measurement and safety checks do not fit neatly. BleepingComputer says brand suitability matters here because ads sit around conversations, not on a webpage. Buyers may want to ask what data leaves ChatGPT, who verifies the safeguards, and what pricing and minimum spend apply.
