Microsoft releases October Windows 11 updates KB5127648 and KB5126653

The required Patch Tuesday updates carry security fixes and a set of new features.

In brief
  • Microsoft released two required Windows 11 updates, KB5127648 and KB5126653, with October security fixes. BleepingComputer says they cover hundreds of flaws found in earlier months.
  • Microsoft knows of no new problems, but some PCs with USB 1.0 audio devices may still have audio trouble.

BleepingComputer reported on 13 October that Microsoft has released two Windows 11 updates, KB5127648 and KB5126653. They cover versions 26H2, 25H2, 24H2 and 23H2. The outlet said the updates are required. It said they carry the October 2026 Patch Tuesday security fixes for hundreds of flaws found in earlier months. It called this the tenth Patch Tuesday release of 2026. Users can get it through Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog. The updates also add features, including Emoji 17.0, a Tips widget, and a setting to remap the Copilot key. File Explorer's preview pane now shows PDFs and other non-HTML web downloads automatically. HTML files need a click on a new Preview anyway button.

The coverage does not name the individual security flaws. It gives no severity ratings and does not say whether attackers are using any of them. It also does not say which update number goes with which Windows version. BleepingComputer said Microsoft knows of no new issues with this month's release. It added that Microsoft warns some PCs might still have audio problems after the update. This affects USB 1.0 audio devices and is not widespread.

For teams that run Windows 11 PCs, the update is required and spans four versions, so it belongs in this month's patch plan. The new preview behavior for web downloads and the USB audio warning are worth checking before a wide rollout.
