The Scan
Both Singapore government portals we scanned run Next.js. Modern framework. Server-side rendering. Clean HTML output. Not WordPress. Not Drupal. Not legacy.
How Singapore Did It
GovTech Singapore was established with a clear mandate: build modern government digital services. They hired engineers directly rather than outsourcing to agencies that default to CMS platforms. They invested in internal capability rather than vendor dependency.
The result is a government digital presence that loads faster, costs less to maintain, has a smaller attack surface, and produces cleaner output than most private sector websites in the region.
The Regional Implication
Singapore is the benchmark for Southeast Asian digital government. Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam — all look to Singapore's model. When Singapore proves that government services don't need WordPress, it changes the conversation across ASEAN.
The question for every government in the region: if Singapore can do it, what's stopping you? The answer is usually procurement culture, not capability or budget.
