The Data
New Zealand has the highest Shopify adoption rate of any country TLD in our data. Not .store (61% — but that's a commerce TLD, not a country). Not Australia (31%). Not Pakistan (30%). New Zealand at 41%. Nearly half the detectable .nz web is on one ecommerce platform.
Why New Zealand?
Small population (5 million). English-speaking. Export-oriented economy. High internet penetration. Every one of these traits is a Shopify accelerant. New Zealand businesses sell to the world — wool, wine, tourism, software — and Shopify is the fastest path from product to global storefront. The same pattern shows in Australia (31%) and Pakistan (30%), but New Zealand takes it further.
The Platform Economy in Full Effect
WordPress at 52% is still majority, but barely. In most countries, WordPress is 70-85% of detected sites. New Zealand's WordPress share is suppressed because Shopify ate the commerce layer so aggressively. The 2% Drupal and 1% Next.js are afterthoughts. The .nz web is a two-framework race — and Shopify is closing fast.
