Supabase to buy Turso, maker of a Rust rebuild of SQLite

Supabase says the deal is meant to give AI agents cheap, on-demand databases.

In brief
  • Supabase said on 2 October 2026 that it is acquiring Turso. Turso rebuilt SQLite in Rust.
  • Supabase gave no price or closing date. It says nothing changes for current users.

Supabase said on 2 October 2026 that it is acquiring Turso. Supabase builds around the Postgres database, while Turso works on SQLite, a lighter database. Supabase said AI agents, which are programs that act on their own, are creating millions of databases. It said it already launches over one million databases a week. Turso rewrote SQLite in the Rust language. Its cloud lets one server handle millions of databases, loading each when needed and pausing it when idle. Supabase named Superhuman, Sauna.ai, CTO.new and Mastra as users that give each agent its own database. Glauber Costa and Pekka Enberg will join Supabase with the rest of the Turso team. Costa will lead the agent infrastructure work.

Supabase said current users will see no change. It said Turso will keep operating and keep working on SQLite, and Supabase will keep building around Postgres. The post does not give a price or deal terms. It does not say whether the deal has closed, or when it will. It also does not say how Turso's tools will connect to Supabase products. It only describes a path into the Supabase ecosystem as workloads grow. The source is Supabase's own post, with no separate statement from Turso.

For teams that use either database, Supabase says nothing changes for now. For teams building with AI agents, Supabase says it wants one developer experience from small SQLite prototypes to Postgres in production. It has not yet shown how that will work.
