Anthropic puts Claude inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

The add-on is in beta on every paid Claude plan, and it acts within each user's Google access.

In brief
  • Claude now reads and edits open Google files from a sidebar. It acts within each user's Google sharing permissions.
  • Anthropic names audit controls for Enterprise plans only. The sources say nothing on Team plan audit coverage.

Anthropic released Claude for Google Workspace as a public beta for all paid Claude plans. The add-on opens Claude in a sidebar beside a Google Doc, Sheet or Slides deck, where it reads the file and edits it. VentureBeat reported on 7 October that this is Anthropic's own add-on, while outside developers' add-ons had already offered Claude models. New beta connectors also let users start in Claude and have it make Google files.

Anthropic says Claude's access matches the user's existing Google sharing permissions. By default, each change waits for approval. An "Accept all edits" setting lets Claude finish a task without stopping. In Sheets, it can move a cell range into Python and write results back. Anthropic says Enterprise controls such as the Compliance API and audit export apply to the add-on. The sources do not say what Team plans get, or whether admins can lock the approval setting.

This part is interpretation, not reported fact. Claude acts with whatever the user can already open, so files shared too widely become reachable by an agent. In "Accept all edits" mode, no person checks each change. Teams can review their Google sharing settings and which approval mode staff use.
