Anthropic said in its Claude Haiku 5.5 launch post that it has cut the price of Sonnet 5.5 cache reads by half. Cache reads are charges for reusing text the model has already handled. The price is now $0.10 per million tokens, down from $0.20, effective the day of the announcement. Anthropic said this makes Sonnet 5.5 about 20% cheaper on most agentic tasks. It also said a monthly API credit will roll out this week to all Max and Team subscribers. Max 5x gets $100 a month, Max 20x gets $200, and Team gets up to $500, pooled across its users.
The 20% saving is Anthropic's own estimate, and it applies to most agentic work, not every job. The sources do not say how the Team amount is set within the "up to $500" limit. They also do not say what happens to unused credit at month end, or the exact start date for each plan. Anthropic points to a Help Center article for details, which the sources do not reproduce. Anthropic said the credits are meant for building tools, apps and agents, and work on any of its models.
Teams that run agents on Sonnet 5.5 may see lower bills, since Anthropic says cache reads make up a large share of token use. Max and Team subscribers get a set amount of API spend to try new builds. Actual savings will depend on how much of each workload is cache reads.
