BleepingComputer reported on October 7, 2026 that Advantest has confirmed a theft of personal data. Advantest is a Japanese maker of automated test equipment for the chip industry. BleepingComputer says a threat actor got into its network on February 15. In a notice dated October 6, about eight months on, Advantest said an outside party copied data from its servers. The data included personal details of the recipients. Advantest offers 18 months of free identity theft, credit and web monitoring from Kroll, to be claimed by January 4, 2027.
BleepingComputer says Advantest's first disclosure reported ransomware but could not say whether customer or employee data was hit. Ransomware locks files. Copying data out is a separate act. Advantest says it has no information that the data was leaked or misused. In BleepingComputer's reading, it is unclear whether those affected are customers, employees, partners or a mix. The number of people affected is unknown. Advantest had not answered BleepingComputer's questions when it published.
Advantest's case shows that "ransomware deployed" does not say whether data left the company. Here, confirmation came about eight months after the breach. Buyers can ask suppliers what data of theirs they hold, what the contract says about notice, and how they would learn whose data was involved.
